THE STORY OF THE BABYEYE® TECHNIQUE
In 2016, Dr. Gera Tagani identified a recurring anatomical problem among patients seeking periocular rejuvenation. Many patients complained of appearing tired, aged, or hollow around the eyes despite undergoing conventional aesthetic treatments. Even after blepharoplasty, brow lifting procedures, skin resurfacing, or lower eyelid volumization, a significant number continued to exhibit volume deficiency within the superior sulcus and upper orbital region.
Through extensive anatomical study and clinical observation, Dr. Tagani recognized that the underlying cause frequently originated from age-related volume depletion, congenital skeletal morphology, orbital rim prominence, and asymmetry of the upper periorbital framework.
Particularly in patients with deep-set eyes, a prominent superior orbital rim, thin soft tissue coverage, or genetically reduced periorbital fat compartments, the upper eyelid can develop a hollowed appearance that creates shadows, exaggerates skeletal contours, and contributes to a fatigued or prematurely aged look.
The BabyEye® Technique was developed to address this specific anatomical deficiency through restoration of volume within the superior sulcus and upper orbital complex while preserving the natural characteristics of the individual eye.
ANATOMICAL PHILOSOPHY
Unlike traditional approaches that focus primarily on skin excision or lower eyelid treatment, the BabyEye® Technique targets the upper periorbital volume deficit that often exists above the tarsal platform and along the superior orbital rim.
The procedure is designed to restore continuity between the eyebrow, upper eyelid, temple, and orbital framework.
By re-establishing youthful volume in these anatomical regions, the eye appears softer, healthier, less skeletonized, and more rested while maintaining natural facial identity.
The goal is not to create fullness or heaviness, but rather to restore the gentle convexity naturally present in youthful eyes.
Preparation for the Baby Eye® Technique
To ensure the best results, preparation is key:
- Lifestyle Adjustments: Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least one week before the procedure.
- Skin Health: Maintain good skin care, avoid excessive sun exposure, and consider pre-procedure skin treatments if recommended.

THE PROCEDURE
The BabyEye® Technique is most commonly performed using autologous nanofat or microfat harvested from the patient’s own body.
Fat may be obtained from areas such as:
- Lower abdomen
- Inner knees
- Inner thighs
- Flanks (“love handles”)
- Other suitable donor sites depending on individual anatomy
Following harvesting and processing, the purified fat is transferred using specialized instruments developed for precise placement within the upper orbital region.
The graft is strategically placed in deep anatomical planes immediately superficial to the periosteum of the superior orbital rim and within selected periorbital fat compartments to achieve smooth, natural volume restoration.
In selected cases, Dr. Tagani may recommend a customized combination approach incorporating specific volumizing products when this is considered anatomically advantageous. Treatment planning is individualized based on skeletal structure, tissue quality, degree of hollowing, and patient goals.
ANESTHESIA OPTIONS
The BabyEye® Technique can be performed under several anesthetic approaches depending on the treatment plan:

RECOVERY
Recovery varies depending on whether nanofat transfer, microfat grafting, or combination treatment has been performed.

Initial improvement is visible immediately, although final results continue to evolve as swelling resolves and transferred fat integrates into the surrounding tissues.
Most patients return to normal social activities within several days, while final refinement typically develops over several weeks to months.
